St Francis Church
St Francis Church is one of the oldest European churches in India, located in Fort Kochi. It was built in 1503 by Portuguese Franciscan friars who came to Kochi. Initially dedicated to Santo Antonio, the patron saint of Portugal, the church has witnessed centuries of change as the region went through Portuguese, Dutch, and British eras. The church underwent various structural changes over time and is a living tribute to various European architectural styles. Notably, Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese sailor who reached Kerala in 1498, was cremated in St Francis Church during his third visit to the region in 1524, although his remains were later taken back to Portugal. Today, St Francis Church stands as a must-visit spot, offering a glimpse into its rich history and architectural glory.

Santacruz bascilica
Santa Cruz Basilica is one of the eight basilicas in India and is located in Fort Kochi. Its construction began in the 16th century when Dom Portuguese Francisco de Almeida was granted permission by the then Maharaja of Cochin. The foundation of the basilica was laid on May 3, 1505, in commemoration of the Feast Day of the Invention of the Holy Cross. Over the centuries, the basilica underwent various structural changes, including demolition and reconstruction. It was consecrated in its present form in 1905. In 1984, Pope John Paul II elevated its status to that of a basilica due to its historical importance and sanctity. The basilica showcases grand exteriors and Gothic-style interiors, making it a unique structure. It is also the Cathedral Church of the diocese of Cochin. The Santa Cruz Basilica is renowned for its divinity, rich history, and grandeur, making it a must-visit destination in Fort Kochi.
Chinese Fishing Nets
Chinese Fishing Nets, also known as 'Cheenavala' in Malayalam, are a popular attraction in Fort Kochi. These nets were believed to have been introduced to Kochi by the Chinese explorer Zheng He between 1350 and 1450 CE. Made using teak and bamboo poles, these nets are about 10 meters high and have a cantilever with a net attached to it, spreading over an area of approximately 20 square meters. While primarily used for fishing, the operation of these nets has become a source of amusement for travelers and tourists. Visitors can witness the spectacle of these nets in action by visiting during the early hours of the morning or in the evening. The sight of these beautiful structures against the backdrop of the setting sun is truly rich.

Dutch palace
The Dutch Palace, also known as the Mattancherry Palace, is a protected monument and one of the finest examples of traditional Kerala architecture. It was built around 1545 by the Portuguese as a gift to the Maharajah of Kochi. The palace is a quadrangular structure constructed in the traditional Kerala 'nalukettu' style, with some European influences. During the Dutch regime, the palace underwent significant changes and came to be known as the Dutch Palace. It houses a remarkable collection of murals depicting Indian epics and legends, providing visitors with insights into the lives and lifestyles of the Maharajas of the erstwhile kingdom of Kochi. The Dutch Palace is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must-visit destination in Fort Kochi.

Dutch Cemetry
The Dutch Cemetery in Fort Kochi is the oldest European cemetery in India. It is a memorial that houses the tombs of Dutch governors, commanders, and other officials from the Dutch regime in the region. The cemetery was consecrated in 1724 and is known for its typical Dutch architectural style. The tombs are made of granite and red laterite, and many of them have inscriptions in old Dutch script. While the cemetery remains closed most of the time, visitors can request special access to view it. The cemetery is managed by the Church of South India and is a significant historical site in Fort Kochi.

Synagogue
The Paradesi Synagogue, also known as the Jewish Synagogue, is located in Mattancherry, Jew Town adjacent to Fort Kochi. It is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations and one of the seven synagogues in the area that is still in use. The synagogue was first built in 1568 by the Portuguese and later reconstructed by the Dutch a few years later. It features a magnificent architectural design with a huge central hall, splendid pillars, large open windows, glass chandeliers, lamps, and ceramic floor tiles. The synagogue houses a rare and unique collection of antiques from bygone centuries, making it a treat for history lovers. The word "Paradesi" means "foreigner," and the synagogue stands as a testament to the contributions of Jews to the cultural fabric of the region. It is a splendid monument that adds grandeur to the premises and is a must-visit destination in Fort Kochi.
Jain temple
The Jain Temple in Fort Kochi is a significant religious site dedicated to Shri Dharmanath, the 15th Jain Tirthankara. It was built by Hirubhai Jivraj Dhanji in memory of her husband Jivraj Dhanji. The temple stands out with its unique architecture, resembling Gujarati temples, and is adorned with white marble interiors, exquisite artworks, and sculptures. The temple complex is known for attracting thousands of pigeons daily, which are fed with grains. It is considered one of the major Jain pilgrimage centers in India and draws tens of thousands of visitors each year.
